Welcome to the first edition of Art News from the Barbara Garrett
Studio. It is always exciting to discover many of the new ways that the
Internet can serve artists and advance the art community. This is just
one of them. It is available through the Fine Art Studio Online or
FASO.
Camino Real 8
It is also exciting to share with you some of the activities of the
Camino Real 8 the group of artists I treasure and share this adventure
we call art with. Camino Real 8 (or CR8 as they may be called) hurried
to beat bad weather this winter by scheduling several plein air events
this fall. They traveled to the Gilman Tunnels in the Jemez Mountains
and several of the group captured the sheer cliff faces and atmospheric
light that filtered through the river canyon. This trip was followed by
a couple of voyages to the shimmering yellow aspens above Santa Fe, New
Mexico.
They also held one of their best shows ever at the Los Lunas Museum of
Heritage & Arts. Fantastic art in an outstanding facility. You couldn't
beat it.
Friends of the Sevilleta
I also took the opportunity that the Friends of the Sevilleta offered
during their fall event day and hiked the Nature Tour shooting as many
photos as possible for later studio work. And the studio work has been
rewarding as I seek to capture the colors of the Chihuahuan Desert. The
beauty of the desert really comes alive for me as I lay down the colors
that I sought to so carefully see in the field.
