NARRATIVE:
Barbara Huffcutt Garrett was born in northern Wisconsin and attended a one-room country school through the seventh grade. The family of five children grew up surrounded by a rural life in an unplugged age. She graduated with bachelors and masters degrees from Montana State University-Bozeman and lived and worked in Montana for 25 years. While in Montana she met and married Thomas M. Posey, a former executive director of the Western Heritage Center in Billings. He cultivated her art skills and mentored her as she explored mediums and subject matter. Following her husband she moved to New Mexico in 1992. New Mexico proved to be an epicenter of top pastel artists. They offered invaluable inspiration and training in pastels. A member of the Camino Real 8 art group located in central New Mexico she found a passion for applying her art skills. Upon returning to her beloved Montana in 2016 she continues to explore her love for all that is art.
